The time has come for a revolution in the Republican Party! The Party has been progressively moving to the left. Talk radio for all their mentions of Reagan they hail him as their hero. Most of them are completely unwilling to admit that all three of the Republican candidates would adhere to the conservative ideals. John McCain is obviously more conservative than either of the Democratic candidates, and despite what Talk Radio says his record shows he is more conservative than Mitt Romney. Through the primaries the Republican Party is restructuring not leaning more to the Left, but refocusing and leaning more to the Right and deciding how to convey not new liberal ideas but how to refocus and apply the principals of the true conservative movement that Reagan conveyed so well to the American people. The question is not what ideas the Republican Party needs to change, or will change; it is how do we apply, and communicate these wonderful timeless ideas. Right now we have the choice of two men that will fight for these principles John McCain and Mike Huckabee, and one that will adhere to them better than the Democrats Mitt Romney. They are principles worth fighting for and the men who will carry them are worth defending with even more vigor and determination than in the days of our fathers or their fathers.
The principles that Reagan laid out were simple, logical, and yet bold. The first of these was to have a military that no country in the world would ever want to take on; he believed in peace though intimidation. Something the Left would say is not very progressive or kind a thought that sends chills down my spine. Reagan did this despite the attacks made on him for raising spending; he saw how necessary it was to be not one of the most powerful, but the most powerful country in the world.
The second is to limit the size of government; “Nations crumble from within when the citizenry asks of government those things which the citizenry might better provide for itself.” (Ronald Reagan) The Republican Party has lost its way on this one over the last few years, becoming a party of spend everything and ask for more. They are now beginning to move back where they should be, which is spend less and give excess back to the people.
The third is lower taxes, less spending, and less business regulation this is a true economic stimulus package. Tax rebates are economic stimulus for fools, the government borrows money to give to people some who do not even pay taxes then it asks you for that money plus interest later. That only stimulates government’s ability and need to collect more money from citizens in the future. “Government does not tax to get the money it needs; government always finds a need for the money it gets.” (Ronald Reagan) "Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it." (Ronald Reagan) He thought things were bad then, and they have only gotten worse in the last twenty years.
The fourth issue Reagan said we needed to tackle is abortion. His thoughts on this "I've noticed that everybody that is for abortion has already been born." This is one of my favorite Reagan quotes for the wit, and pure logic of it. Now to the meat of the issue I will say this once and I want everyone to understand. We need ONE more Supreme Court justice to overturn Roe v. Wade; in the next four years at least one of the current justices will retire or die. If we fail to win this November abortion will be the law of the land for another twenty years states will not be allowed to enforce their own abortion laws. Is it really worth risking millions more slaughtered to prove a point?
The important thing is not voting for your choice now and sitting out in November if he loses which Rush Limbaugh, and others said they would do. It is fighting to help your candidate win and admitting defeat graciously if he looses, and then going out the day after the convention to make sure that the Conservative movement wins in November. It is not just a matter of enduring another four years of the Clintons in the White House; it may very well be a matter of having a country to leave for your children. Ronald Reagan once said, “Freedom is never more than one generation from extinction. We did not pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.” Take these wise words to heart, follow in Reagan’s legacy and continue to fight for the Conservative Movement, so that our children and their children can fight for and protect freedom.
