A few things I think Mike Huckabee needs to do to win the Republican nomination. First he needs to maintain a clear lead in the Iowa polls. He needs to maintain his new strength in the national polls being tied with Guiliani is much bigger than people think. He needs to stay true to his word; he has shown great success by telling people honestly what he thinks. Finally I think he needs to continue leading his campaign staff, this is something I noticed from the beginning.
Huckabees lead in Iowa is no accident he has made that his primary goal, it is the same strategy Mitt Romney is using. I say the same strategy really it isn’t; they both wanted good showings in Iowa they have however chosen two very different paths to that end goal. Romney has spent millions of dollars there mostly airing television ads negative or not it makes little difference. People want to see and hear candidates give them straight forward answers to there questions this is what Mike Huckabee does better in my opinion than any of the other candidates on either side. To maintain his lead what he needs to do is continue to talk to as many voters in Iowa as possible, which he has been doing very well. I would set this goal for the Huckabee campaign forty to fifty percent in Iowa polls, with a ten to fifteen point lead over the next candidate the week of the Iowa caucus. I think this would be the best for two reasons first Iowa is very fluid you want to start as far ahead as possible, second because that big of a lead in Iowa would very likely thrust him into a clear lead in national polls.
Weather he is the clear national frontrunner doesn’t really matter as long as he stays tied or very close to Giuliani. Obviously a lead in national polls would make things much easier than if he is only close to first. Staying close in the national polls is important because it eliminates Huckabee’s biggest flaw, which is until recently he hasn’t been able to convince people he can get elected. That was my first fear when I decided my Christian morals would not allow me to vote for any candidate over Huckabee; don’t get me wrong when it comes to the general election I am sure that any of the Republican candidates are better for me than the Democrats. For me abortion is the second most important issue the first would be the war on terrorists Mike Huckabee is strong on both, and clearly the strongest of any candidate on the right to life.
Staying true to his word seems to come naturally to Huckabee; two reasons for this also he was raised by good parents who taught him there was consequences for not honoring his word. The second is he has seen how American voters appreciate this from their leaders, he won reelection in Arkansas by doing what he said he would when he had the opportunity. The American people seem to want someone who they trust even if they don’t agree one hundred percent with all their stances. A few things I would focus on if I were Huckabee. Making sure people know he was governor of Arkansas for two terms plus two and a half years and Lieutenant Governor before that. That he supports the "fair tax", but would cut taxes and spending even if he could not get the "fair tax" through. I think the "fair tax" is best but probably won’t catch on fast enough for Huckabee. Continue to tell people about his strong stance on national security, national defense, and immigration enforcement. He also needs to tell people more about his unique ideas about health care, that he doesn’t support a socialist heath care plan. Nothing makes it easier for voters to see whom you really are then talking with them face to face, and Huckabee has done that and needs to continue.
He has been clearly leading his campaign staff from the start not to say that he doesn’t have good people around him, but he doesn’t do what his staff tells him to if he doesn’t believe it to be true. I also don’t want to sound like I am hitting the rest of the republicans unfairly. Mitt Romny gave a speech just last week that his staff has been against from the start, but really I don’t think there is some grand conspiracy to keep him out of the White House because he holds slightly different religious beliefs than some. John McCain is a man who I think holds great principles he will not stray from. Even Rudy Giuliani has issues he stands strong on, and should be commended for. I simply think that Mike Huckabee has clear control over his campaign, and his staff is there to advise him but not to lead him. His leadership abilities are overwhelmingly apparent in almost every thing he does.
I think despite having other good candidates the best candidate for me; and maybe the rest of the country is Mike Huckabee. He has an uniting quality and I think that is what this country needs in its time of change. No one is really sure exactly what Americans are looking for in their next leader, but I have a feeling that it is not what the media is expecting. No one knew how we would respond to attacks on this country till it happened, and the result was for a time the people of this great country stood up as one. I think this is what we need in this country again; I personally am getting sick of all the partisan politics. I think Republicans and Democrats both need to stop fighting against each other, and start fighting for the people again.
